Thursday, January 29th at the Pleasantview Activity Center. Lunch at Noon, Speaker at 12:30pm
Steve Swaffar serves as a regenerative ranching advisor in the Producer Guidance program at Noble Research Institute. He received a Bachelor of Science in systematics and ecology and a Master of Arts in systematics and ecology from the University of Kansas. He grew up working on his grandparents’ wheat and cattle farm in Grant and Garfield counties in northern Oklahoma. Steve has spent the last 25 years working in ag conservation, ag policy and ag systems promotion. During his career, he has visited the farms and ranches of countless regenerative agriculture innovators to learn first-hand about regen cover crop and soil health practices. Steve is an avid gardener and beekeeper and practices regenerative management techniques in these hobbies. Swaffer and his family own a small property where they plan to raise grazing livestock and continue beekeeping.
At Noble, Steve focuses on soil health, ecosystem management and grazing. For his presentation, Soil Health Matters, Graze Every Acre, the question is not whether every acre should be grazed, but how can you graze every acre. Whether you want to extend your grazing season, make use of ungrazed acres, improve grazing distribution and utilization or reclaim ungrazable acres, grazing management with soil health in mind will increase your opportunities. Flexibility and adaptability are key to getting every acre grazed; creativity is one of greatest assets when the goal is to graze every acre. Steve will share some of the experiences he has learned from producers and the Noble ranches linking soil health and grazing. Event sponsors include Kauffman Seeds, Kansas WRAPS, City of Wichita, EPA Section 319 Program.
